Arm shield 17th Rubicon Infantry Division, troop, wide rim model
It originates from the "Pavia" Brigade established on 1 March 1860 which has the
27th and 28th Rgt under its staff. Infantry and dissolved in 1871. In execution
of the law of 11 March 1926 on the organization of the army, which provides for
the constitution of brigades on three regiments, on 20 October it assumes the name
of XVII Infantry Brigade and hires its employees in addition to the 27th and to
the 28th Rgt. Infantry, also the 11th Rgt. Casale Infantry. Subsequently the brigade
and the 26th Artillery Regiment become part of the Territorial Military Division
of Ravenna (17th). This large unit in 1934 assumes the name of the Rubicon Infantry
Division (17th), a name which also extends to the brigade which becomes the Rubicon
Infantry Brigade (17th). With the provision of April 27, 1939, the 27th and
28th Rgt. Infantry and the 26th Rgt. Artillery for the Infantry Division gave life
to the Pavia Infantry Division (17a) of the self-transportable type which, in May 1941,
was transformed into a Motorized Division but, subsequently, returned to the
self-transportable type.
