Lappland commemorative shield, made of aluminum and measuring 37 mm x 65 mm, LAPPLAND shields vary greatly in shape, size, and quality.

The Lappland shield was never produced in any factory, and there is no specific minting. Soldiers received a document with the shield design and were required to produce their own shield or have it produced on their own initiative. This also explains the great variety in shield types and the many different types of material used in production. It is therefore almost impossible to distinguish originals from replicas. Shields made on machines are almost certainly replicas. The Lappland shield was the last German Wehrmacht decoration in the form of an arm shield. As far as is known at this time, it was also the last war decoration produced in Germany during World War II. Official data on the awarding of the decoration have been lost. Therefore, the exact date of its award and its criteria are not known precisely.
