Original Kriegsmarine summer sailor cap .Excellent conditions, signed 1942
The Kriegsmarine originally used white uniforms and headdress as their tropical
dress and had two separate brown tropical uniforms, one developed pre-war and
one during the war. The overseas white beret followed the same pattern as the
navy blue beret overseas and is believed to have been introduced in mid-1939,
for use by Junior NCOs and EMs on a restricted basis. The wearing of the
white beret was abolished by regulations of 2 February 1940, but due to clothing
shortages the wearing of the white beret was reinstated in 1942. Further
regulations specified specific times and areas in which the white beret was
permitted for use.
