The "Lancers of Milan" were a regimental department of the Sardinian Army of the Kingdom of Sardinia
and of the Royal Italian Army, the "Lancers of Milan" Regiment was established, with Royal Decree
25 August 1859 with the name "Cavalleggeri di Milan ", after the annexation of Lombardy to the
Kingdom of Sardinia and, as a consolidated practice at the time, was initially composed of three
squadrons drawn from the" Piemonte Reale "," Savoia "and" Genova "cavalry regiments in the Vercelli
headquarters. On 6 June 1860 the name was changed to the "Lancers of Milan" Regiment.
In September 1870 the Regiment participated in the short campaign for the capture of Rome and remained
there until the following year before being transferred first to Nocera and then to Naples.
In the meantime, on 10 September 1871 it was ordered that the Cavalry Army consist of 20 regiments numbered
progressively, unifying the denomination in the generic one of the specialty and keeping the traditional
name in parentheses. Thus the Regiment becomes 7th Cavalry Regiment (Milan) to return to the traditional
name of Regiment "Lancers of Milan" (7th) starting from 1 January 1898 while it is stationed in Parma.
