
Fur hat for an officer of the 17th Rgt Cavalryman of "MILANO" 1890/1933
On 20 October 1863 the "Caserta Cavalry Depot" was established which, on 28 January of
the following year (1864), became the "Cavalry Regiment of Caserta (17 °)" with the
contribution of 5 Squadrons supplied by the Regiments Aosta, Saluzzo, Monferrato, Lodi and Lucca.
In 1871 it took the name of 17th Cavalry Regiment (Caserta) to assume, in 1876, that of
Caserta Cavalry Regiment (17th) and in 1897 the definitive one of Cavalleggeri di Caserta (17th).
In 1887 he contributed to the formation of the "1st Squadron of Hunters on Horseback of Africa"
and in 1895 he sent 3 officers and 68 wingmen to Eritrea.
From 1913 to '14 he participated with 2 officers and 173 wingmen in operations in Cyrenaica,
distinguishing himself in the battles of Zauia El Faidia (1913) and Tacalzà - Bir Legreiat (1914).
During the First World War the Regiment, as a supplementary troop, took part in operations on the
Gorizia front in May / June 1915 and constituted the 1500 ^ Compagnia Mitraglieri.
He disbanded on 1 July 1919 and his men were incorporated into the Cavalleggeri of Aosta.
