Rare colbacco frieze for officer of the 22nd Cavalleggeri Regiment of "CATANIA",
the frieze for the workmanship and the very small traces of silvering still present
in some points is a pre 1919, or the year of dissolution.
The regiment was constituted in 1883 with the name of Catania cavalry regiment,
incorporating the sixth squadrons of the regiments Saluzzo, Alessandria, Lodi, Piacenza,
Guide; in 1897 it took the definitive name of 22 ° Catania cavalry regiment. During the
First World War, the 1st squadron took off and became the 731st machine gun company, employed
in the Monfalcone sector. The regiment moves to Malakastra in Albania, then to the Semeni valley;
on 7 July 1918 he participated in the fighting around Fieri earning a silver medal for military
valor, the date is also taken as an anniversary for the regimental party. In 1919 he was dissolved
and in 1920 incorporated into the Vittorio Emanuele II cavalry regiment.
