The "Lancers of Vittorio Emanuele II" originate from the ancient "Regiment Vittorio Emanuele Cavalleria" 
born with ministerial order of 12 June 1859, with which Count Massimo Taparelli D'Azeglio was charged
with setting up a brigade made up of infantry in Turin, cavalry and artillery, with exclusively voluntary
elements. On February 2, 1920, following a reduction of the weapon, Vittorio incorporates the «Cavalleggeri di Aquila»,
dissolved with. R.D. 20 April assumes the name of Cavalleggeri Regiment of Vittorio Emanuele II, loses
the spears; it incorporates two squadrons of the «Lancers of Montebello» and on 20 May elements of the
«Cavalleggeri di Catania», both dissolved. On 3 January 1934 the regiment took on the name of "Lancers of Vittorio Emanuele II" (circular 86, G.M. 1934).
