The Air Force Distinguished Service Medal. It is the highest peacetime decoration awarded by the U.S. Air Force. Established by Congress on July 6, 1960. It is awarded to members who have distinguished themselves through exceptionally meritorious service in positions of high responsibility. The design features a radiant sun with thirteen gold rays and thirteen white enamel stars, with a semi-precious blue stone at the center.
