An exceptional fascist dagger from the FEDERAL ENSIGN, model 1935/1938. This dagger was found, along with three others belonging to the same person, in a house in the province of Arezzo over 30 years ago by an antiques dealer from Cortona, a certain Giorgio Billi, who sadly passed away some years ago. He was a great collector of Italian medals and fascist paraphernalia.
The FEDERAL ENSIGN is one of the rarest daggers from the Fascist period, in my opinion even rarer than the legendary Musketeers of the Duce.
The FEDERAL ENSIGN were present in Florence and Arezzo.
The ALFIERE FEDERALE dagger is based on the MVSN 35 model but differs in some specific details that make it unique: the grip is still contoured with a finger recess, but has a slightly narrower base and widens toward the distal end. The grip is still made of ebony, like the M35 Officer's daggers, but bears a rectangular silver plate with the inscription "ALFIERE FEDERALE." The grip cap is olive-shaped with a pronounced point because the grip narrows, thicker at the back and narrowing toward the center.
This is incorrectly reported in the book "Del Pugnale il Fiero Lampo" by Cesare Calamndrei, on page 11. 436/437, where it is drawn with the classic scabbard of the M35 MVSN having had two like this one and one with chains in all three the scabbard was smooth without the fasces and the MVSN writing.
