The origins of the division date back to the "Lombardia" Brigade, established on 27 February 1849
and dissolved in the spring of the same year. The "Brescia" Brigade of the Savoy Army was formed on November 1, 1859 with the 19th and
20th regiments, formerly belonging to the Lombard Division which had fought during the
first war of independence. The Brigade, which became part of the Royal Army after the proclamation of the Kingdom

of Custoza, participating in the capture of Rome in 1870, in the colonial wars, in Eritrea

Royal Army, which provides for the constitution of brigades on three regiments, the large

framed in the 27th Territorial Military Division of Catanzaro. This unit on 1 January 1935
assumed the name of the Infantry Division "Sila" (27th). [4] When the "Sila" Division was
mobilized and transferred to Eritrea on 20 September 1935, the "Sila II" Infantry Division
(127th) was established in Catanzaro on the same date, which framed the "Sila II" (CXXVII)
infantry brigade with the 132nd, 243rd and 244th Infantry Regiment, and the 45th Artillery Regiment. In Eritrea the "Sila" Brigade takes part in the operations for the conquest of Macallè and,

used in local combat in the southern sector of Enda Jesus-Passo Dogheà and in reconnaissance
actions in the area of Debrì, Calammo, Scelicot.

On January 19, 1936, after bitter clashes, the "Sila" Brigade occupied important centers
in Tembien. In February, having overcome the tenacious resistance of the defenders, it
reached the heights north of Amba Aradam and on 26 February occupied the Amba Alagi pass.
In March the occupation extended to the Fenaroà and Socotà plateau. [2] In East Africa the
flags of the regiments of the large unit earned the bronze medal for military valor and the
Cross of the Military Order of Savoy At the end of the Ethiopian campaign on the return of the "Sila" to the homeland, the "Sila II"
