M40 jacket in woolen cloth for a Soldier of the V. Gavazzoli Black Brigade of Parma
From wikipedia:
"The XXVII "Virginio Gavazzoli" Black Brigade was established with headquarters in
the University building, in the current via Giordano Cavestro, at the time via Walter Branchi,
under the command of the federal secretary Pino Romualdi; it included two battalions (in turn
divided in three companies for each battalion) and a command company. He found in the territory
of his competence a situation fraught with difficulty due to the presence of numerous and
aggressive partisan forces, including the Garibaldi Brigades, the SAPs and the GAPs.
Fundamental to their repressive activities were the collaborations with elements of the German SS
and SD, of the 1st Bersaglieri Division "Italia" and 4th Alpine Division "Monterosa" of the
National Republican Army, of the National Republican Guard composed of some departments of
the dissolved 80th Legion CC.NN. of Assault "Alessandro Farnese" and of the Black Brigade commands
of Piacenza, Florence, Lucca and Mantua, as well as by a dense network of spies and confidants.
They were engaged in vast police actions, from the Apennine areas to the city as well as the lower
Parma area, where in the latter they partially managed to neutralize and destroy the clandestine
network of the Resistance.
On November 7, 1944, Dr. Angelo Rognoni replaced Pino Romualdi in command of the Brigade.
They were responsible for various reprisals, including the massacre carried out in Piazza Garibaldi
in Parma on the night of 1 September 1944 and the Soragna massacre which took place on 18 March 1945.
At the end of the conflict in the brigade there were 56 fallen.
Countless soldiers were captured by the partisans and killed by the latter after summary trials,
the Tardini Stadium in Parma was the site of many summary executions after show trials, we are talking
about dozens of Red Brigade members killed
Many disbanded at the end of the war and fled the city, even Franco Morini himself in his book
"Parma nella Repubblica Sociale" had considerable difficulty in tracking down veterans of the
Black Brigade of Parma; I personally had the opportunity to learn from the wife of a former republican
that her husband had been a soldier of the V. Gavazzoli who was present in the house but in another
room absolutely did not want to speak to me.
